National 3-Up 50km Team Time Trial GS/494 04/07/04

Robert Royston, Richard Hallett and David Twin made up one of the 50 teams entered. After some very steady riding by the trio over the undulating circuit, in various weather conditions, including steady rain in the last third of the event. The team finished in 1.17.05, taking the Ron Finch Trophy for the fastest vet team (26th overall) and £30.00 in prize money. The winners were Charles McCulloch, Stuart Shawcross and Craig Simpson of Blue Sky Cycles who recorded 1.06.39.

LVRC Road Races – Horsmonden circuit 09/05/04

Paul Bellamy, Mike Thorogood and Dave Twin all rode the Syd Wightman Memorial for A,B,C. cats over 6 laps of the circuit. Malcolm Whitehead of V.C. Deal went away on the second lap in a group of three and eventually Mr Yarworth of G.S. Stada/Pinerello won the event. The Sydenham boys all rode hard and had goes at getting away in small groups but had to settle for finishing in the main bunch. Dave Fleming rode the Johnny Chivall Memorial for D,E,F,G. cats over 5 laps of the circuit. He also finished in the main bunch. Mike Ives won the event once again having gone away in a three man group.

Catford 10 Q10/19 15/05/04

On a bright morning with only a light wind the club had a good turnout for the second consecutive weekend on this course. Robert and Harry Royston were the first to ride and won the tandem event in 23.48. Mike Thorogood was up next (riding Simon Cope’s TT bike) getting back to his best with a time of 22.26. This was followed by Mike Molineaux 25.05, Luke Evans 23.03, Paul Bellamy 21.34, Bob Loader 27.06 and Dave Twin 22.26. It would appear that Bob was 5th vet and Paul was joint 10th overall. The event was won by Andy Naylor in 19.39.

Crest C.C. 25 E1/25b 16/05/04

Paul Bellamy and Dave Twin travelled up to Essex to ride this rolling course. On another sunny morning with light wind Paul recorded a 59.14 and Dave a 1.00.04. It looks like Paul was 4th and Dave was 6th. The overall event was equal first for Steve Freeman Chelmer CC and Neil Dowie Crescent Wheelers who both recording 58.41.

Addiscombe C.C. 3-Up TTT GS/494 23/05/04

Richard Hallett, David Twin and Matt Lucas made up one of the 32 teams that rode the course that will be used for the National 3-Up in July. On a bright morning with little wind the team turned in a very respectable 1-16-51, which gave them 7th place. The winners were Steve Freeman, Anthony Stapleton and Ian Browning of Chelmer C.C. who recorded 1.14.16.

Catford Open 25 Q25/20 06/06/04

On a warm, cloudy morning with only a light wind, six members of the club rode this rolling course. Mike Molineaux unfortunately punctured but the others finished as follows: Mike Thorogood 1.00.10 (joint 9th), Paul Bellamy 1.00.26 (11th), David Twin 1.00.29 (12th), Derek Taylor 1.09.24 (32nd) and Bob Loader 1.13.38 (38th) out for 44 finishers. The overall event was won by Andy Proffitt of Arctic R.C. in 55.11.

SERC 2-Up GS/489 (2 circuits) 11/04/05 (Club Troph

Two teams travelled down to the Surrey lanes to ride the course that will be used for the National 3-Up Team Time Trial. On yet another cold but bright morning, Paul Bellamy and Mike Molineaux finished 6th in 1.34.07. Dave Twin and Luke Evans finished 3rd in 1.27.55, winning the club’s 2-Up trophy. The overall event was won by P. Pickup and P.Kench of Liphook Cycles RT in 1.17.03.

Addiscombe C.C. 25 G25/53 02/05/04

On a bright but chilly morning, with hardly any wind. Paul Bellamy and David Twin once again travelled to Surrey to try yet another course. Paul unfortunately went off course and did not finish. David recorded a 59.32. The over event was won by Laurence Harding of Willesden C.C. in 52.42.

Sydenham Open 25 (John Tully Memorial)Q25/20 25/04

In near perfect conditions for this rolling course, four members took part: Paul Bellamy recorded a personal best of 59.00. Dave Twin 1.02.12, Tim Morton 1.05.57 and Mike Molineaux 1.08.24. The overall was won by Simon Cope (Team Edwardes) in 54.43.

KCA 3Up 25 21/03/04

3 teams from the club travelled down to the rolling Q25/20 Harrietsham course to ride the KCA 3-Up. In rather blustery conditions the first trio of Mike Molineaux, Tom Bellamy and James Thorogood recorded a time of 1-14-22. The second trio of Paul Bellamy, Mike Thorogood and Richard Hill were going well until Paul decided to part company with his breakfast, eventually recording a time of 1.07.49. The final trio of David Twin, Matt Lucas and Luke Evans recorded a time of 1.02.11. The overall event was won by Paul Mill, Simon Cope and Danny Rudd of Team Edwardes in 55.57.

San Fairy Ann sporting 25.5 28/03/04

Three riders from the club rode the San Fairy Ann sporting 25.5 mile. The course is twice round an extended version of the Horsmonden road circuit but starting and finishing around Marden. On a bright but still chilly morning Matt Lucas recorded 1.08.05, Luke Evans 1.07.39 and Dave Twin 1.05.18. In the process winning the team prize. On fastest vet against target time Dave came 5th and Luke came 7th. The overall event was won by Paul Mill of Team Edwardes in 58.41.

East Surrey Hardriders 14/03/04

In rather damp and very windy conditions 6 members of the club rode the East Surrey R.C. Hardriders 30. Richard Hallet did not finish as he was still getting of a bad cold. The times of the finishers were as follows: Luke Evans 1.13.19, Dave Twin 1.14.33, Richard Hill 1.15.17, Paul Bellamy 1.16.53 and Mike Thorogood 1.18.48. In the process Luke, Dave and Mike picked up the vets team prize. The overall event was won by Michael Hutchinson in 1.01.28.

28/9/03 KCA 25 Thanet Way Q25/11

A strong wind blowing off the North Sea made for heavy going on this exposed course. Only 5 riders came in under the hour including Martin Taylor of VC Deal with a winning time of 0.57.23. Sydenham’s Paul Bellamy and Alastair Rutherford managed 1.05.11 and 1.05.50 respectively.

31/08/03 KCA (Roy Enfield Memorial) 50 – Q50/1 Har

Dave Twin was the only Sydenham entry in the KCA (Roy Enfield Memorial) 50 on the Q50/1 Harrietsham course. Conditions were once again bright but colder than the previous morning. Dave did a 2.10.48 and in the process picked up the Singer Trophy (This being the new nominated event following the cancellation of the KCA event on 08/06/03). The event was won by Dave Kendall of Finsbury Park C.C. in 1.57.51.

30/08/03 34th Nomads 10 on the Q10/19

On Saturday 30th August 2003 four members of the club rode the 34th Nomads 10 on the Q10/19. Conditions were bright but a slightly chilly. The times were Derek Taylor 24.06, Dave Twin 23.00, Alaistar Rutherford 23.43 and Dave Fleming 23.41. Mr Fleming being very please with his result considering be had only picked up his new Time carbon bike the previous evening. The event was won by Paul Mill of Team Edwards in 20.05. Sean Yates was second with 20.20 after riding a 117 inch fixed!

24/08/03 Finsbury Park CC Open 25

A stiff breeze from the south west led to few riders recording improvements on PBs on the F1B course on the A1 between Tempsford and Baldock. The impressive winning time of 51.55 was posted by Sam Barker of API Bikes, although 3 minutes down on his current best time. Alastair Rutherford, the only Sydenham rider, was disappointed at not beating the hour with 1.00.13.

02/08/03 Catford Open 25 Q25/9 Harrietsham

On Saturday 2nd August Paul Bellamy and David Twin rode the Catford Open 25 on the Q25/9 Harrietsham course. On a very hot afternoon Paul recorded a very respectable 1.02.11 (on a road bike without tri-bars) and David did a PB for the course of 59.32. The event was won M. Taylor of V.C. Dealin 56.26.

27/07/03 Farnborough and Camberley C.C. 25 – H25/8

Richard Hallet, Luke Evans, Paul Bellamy and David Twin travelled down to Hampshire to try a different course. In blustery conditions their times were 1.03.24, 1.03.36, 1.02.35 and 59.07 respectively. The overall winner was James Gilfillan Primera-Bournmouth.co.uk in 55.36.
